When we go to the Bible we should keep in mind that the basic principles of the Bible are taught by God, but written down by human beings deprived of modern day knowledge. So there is some fallibility in the writings of the Bible. But the basic principles are applicable to my life and I don’t find any conflict among them. 1.16K
When a book leaves your hands, it belongs to God. He may use it to save a few souls or to try a few others, but I think that for the writer to worry is to take over God’s business. 1.25K
Business underlies everything in our national life, including our spiritual life. Witness the fact that in the Lord’s Prayer, the first petition is for daily bread. No one can worship God or love his neighbor on an empty stomach. 1.08K
I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence I can reach for; perfection is God’s business. 648
The god whom science recognizes must be a God of universal laws exclusively, a God who does a wholesale, not a retail business. He cannot accommodate his processes to the convenience of individuals. 1.35K
Not for nothing is their motto TGIF – ‘Thank God It’s Friday.’ They live for the weekends, when they can go do what they really want to do. 1.95K
Seems like God don’t see fit to give the black man nothing but dreams – but He did give us children to make them dreams seem worthwhile. 2.28K
The dreams which reveal the supernatural are promises and messages that God sends us directly: they are nothing but His angels, His ministering spirits , who usually appear to us when we are in a great predicament. 2.51K
A man is a god in ruins. When men are innocent, life shall be longer, and shall pass into the immortal, as gently as we awake from dreams. 2.45K
If you asked somebody, ‘what do you wish for in life?’ they wouldn’t say ‘happiness.’ I would have answered ‘excitement, knowledge,’ God knows – I mean, many, many different things, but certainly not ‘happiness’. It seemed like a foreign concept to wish for something that specific and that singular. 640
I used to wonder if it was God’s plan that I should be alone for so much of my life. But I found peace. I found happiness within people and the world. 2.29K
I have to keep reminding myself: If you give your life to God, he doesn’t promise you happiness and that everything will go well. But he does promise you peace. You can have peace and joy, even in bad circumstances. 647
While I gave up God a long time ago, I never shook the habit of wanting to believe in something. So I replaced my creed of everlasting life with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 645
When God loves a creature he wants the creature to know the highest happiness and the deepest misery He wants him to know all that being alive can bring. That is his best gift. There is no happiness save in understanding the whole. 631
